The Judge is known as a Sheriff. In solemn criminal cases there is a jury of 15 people who will decide on your guilt the verdict in a Solemn case is entirely up to the Jury. The Sheriff then decides the sentence to be imposed, in the event you are found guilty.

The offences dealt with under solemn procedure are more serious.

In solemn criminal cases the Sheriff can sentence the accused to up to five years in prison, and impose an unlimited fine.

We no longer undertake Legal Aid for Solemn Court matters.

We provide regular representation in Campbeltown Sheriff Court in Solemn cases.

We can appear elsewhere, if instructed to do so.
